     Joseph Albert was a Moulder. He was born on 25 December 1836 at Tolnayshof, Mosbach, Baden, Germany.1 He was the son of Andreas Albert and Margaretha Reber. Joseph Albert was baptized on 1 January 1837 at Leibenstadt, Mosbach, Baden, Germany. He witnessed the immigration of Joseph Salg on 29 October 1853; Aboard Ship Sir Robert Peel, arriving at the port of New York City. Page 9, passenger 359. Listed as Frederick Sallig.2 As of 29 October 1853, Joseph Albert was also known as Frederick Possibly Joseph's middle name. Listed as Frederick Sallig on ship's passenger list. His siblings were also listed with the last name of Sallig.2

     Joseph Albert married Maria Ittinger, daughter of Anton Ittinger and Katharina Schilling, on 7 February 1857 at German Evangelical Protestant Church, Albany, Albany County, New York; Mary Ittinger listed as Maria Oedinger.3 Joseph Albert lived between 1860 and 1872 at Bethlehem, Albany County, New York.

     Joseph Albert began military service on 7 August 1862 at Bethlehem, Albany County, New York. Enlisted into Co. "K" of the 113th Regiment, NY Infantry. Joseph's regiment, the 113th NY Infantry, was redesignated as the 7th NY Heavy Artillery in December 1862 at Washington, District of Columbia. He was wounded by partly spent grape shot on 18 June 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia.1 He was captured by Confederates on 22 June 1864 at Petersburg, Virginia. He was a prisoner between July 1864 and February 1865 at Andersonville Prison, Andersonville, Sumter County, Georgia. He was paroled on the Northeast Cape Fear River on 27 February 1865 at North East Ferry, North Carolina. He was honorably discharged and ended his military service on 25 May 1865 at Albany, Albany County, New York.
